Online shopping has grown in leaps and bounds in South Africa since the success of “Bid or Buy” & Takealot. Recently I came across another online merchant that’s shaping up to be a worthy adversary to the bigger players in this fast growing industry.
I needed a laser printer for the office and after some research, settled on a Canon. Most of us in SA are familiar with takealot.com, who is arguably the market leader in online shopping and they had the printer for R2500. The retail price is around R2900. Unfortunately they were out of stock so I started searching elsewhere. I came across RARU.co.za and they had the same printer for R1960. I was a bit uneasy about using them as I had never heard of them but I decided to roll the dice and hope for the best. I ordered the printer with a few more items and everything went smoothly from start to finish. What I found is that they’re hungry to prove themselves since they are competing with well established brands, they have to up their game and provide good, if not better service.
The only issue at the moment is that they don’t accept ebucks which is a big plus for Takealot.com. However they accept all other forms of payment as well as bitcoin which is new type of electronic currency that has been gaining traction since 2009.
Find the ultimate gift for any fan
RARU.co.za is based in Cape Town and the service is awesome. They don’t try to be a carbon copy of the other online retailers. They stock the usual home ware, electronics etc but they cater for a younger market, in my opinion. If you’re into anime, comics, gaming etc then you’ll love RARU.co.za, they have many specialty items for fans of various franchises ie. Star Wars, Pokemon, Game of thrones, Harry Potter etc. You’ll find everything from t-shirts to figurines at RARU.
The next time, you’re looking for a gift or just feel like browsing for a great deal around midnight, give them a try and let us know what you think.
